I have taught Literature and writing at Oregon State University, at San Francisco State, Western Illinois, and Rowan Universities, as well as inside the prison in Smyrna, Delaware. Since teaching English and Spanish at Middletown High School for five years, I have worked part-time at community colleges in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, while pursuing my musical and writing careers and working seasonally with Delaware’s Department of Education. There I worked in the D.O.E.’s Migrant office, providing translation, health and educational help, setting up summer schools, and enrolling kids in school. Hablo bastante espanol.
Currently I am enrolled at the University of Delaware as an undergrad Spanish major. I teach at Delaware County CC in Jennersville, PA and Tutor ESL at the U of D. Two winters ago I was at Polk County CC in Lakeland, Florida.
I always look for opportunities to use my creativity in teaching. I have produced and recorded students’ musical compositions including “Down on the Ant Farm” and “Save the Bays.” I delivered a musical lecture “That is no Country for Young Men” at the Two-Year College symposium in Washington, D.C., which I reprised to a class at University College, Dublin. I worked with Delaware’s DNREC for a couple of years, appearing in schools singing environmental songs and distributing Stretch Saves the Inland Bays, a coloring book I wrote and drew.
I have a Master’s plus 45, a Delaware teaching certificate in Language Arts, and a California Community College credential.
